NSFW means not safe to work it’s more than that because younger minds also use Instagram and they definitely need to be protected. But protected from what?
Images of women in lingerie are pretty commonplace anyway in the real world, go to any department store. Young minds will have already been on the beach and seen lots of bodies – well that’s OK. In a museum there could well be statues or paintings of nudity – or even depictions of a hellish landscape – that’s – erm…
Well it’s OK. These are natural images we all already dream of at night. They are built in and it’s good to produce them, talk about them and express them as art. It’s the human condition.
Then there’s Instagram or Bing that recognises nudity and has a blanket opinion about it. You get warned that your reach will be restricted if you upload an image that includes nudity even if it is genuine art. And you certainly can’t make a reel that includes nudity – well I can’t.
But Instagram has worse content than nudes that are not nudes and nothing seems to be done about those. I am talking about certain anime with skimpy bikinis, big boobs and camel toes which are not nudes but are in my view pornography. Instagram seems to allow this and similar.
I don’t want to get on my high-horse about what should and should not be allowed on Instagram but not everyone wants content like this and certainly we should protect our young minds.
Therefore, please Instagram allow people to mark content as NSFW directly so that artists are not restricted and consumers of images can filter out NSFW if they so wish.
